10 Day Search for Missing Girl in Malaysian Jungle Concludes

Nora Quoirin, a 15-year-old British born, was found dead in a Malaysian jungle, bringing an end to the 10-day search; which involved more than 300 volunteers and over £100,000 donated for funding.

On the 4th August, Nora’s parents reported from their hotel resort that their child was missing and that Nora’s bedroom window was wide open. Nora was born with holoprosencephaly, which affects brain development, and “was not independent and was vulnerable.” Said Nora’s family

A spokesman for the parents of Madeleine McCann; Clarence Mitchell declared that there were similarities between Nora’s disappearance and Madeleines, who went missing in Portugal in 2007.  Nora’s parents believed she had been abducted and they claimed that she “would never leave her family voluntarily.”

The Berembun Forest Reserve, where Nora was found is made up of 4000 acres and contains wild boar, monkeys and giant millipedes. The search operation involved sniffer dogs, infrared detectors and a £10,000 reward for any information.

Her body was discovered on Tuesday, about 2.5km from the jungle resort of Dusun. Nora was found completely naked and next to a stream, when a group of hikers came across the body and alerted the police immediately.

The post-mortem examination revealed that there were no signs of kidnapping or rape and that her cause of death was internal bleeding, relating to starvation and stress. It is believed that Nora died a couple of days before she was found.

A book of condolence and a special service has since been held in Belfast. Further inquiries are due to be made and more samples will be taken from her body, however Nora’s parents are now able to take her body back to London.

“Our hearts are broken.” said Mr and Mrs Quoirin who have since offered their gratitude to everyone who united in support.
