Roses scattered across the room, candlelit baths and a card explaining how much your other half loves you are all expected on February 14th.

But why?

I personally like surprises, spontaneity and the unknown. But on February 14th, it's pretty much a no-brainer that I will receive a greetings card bought in Asda, with a rose sat on my bedside table when I wake up.

Do I love it? Yes. But if I entered my house after a hard day at work on a random Wednesday afternoon, receiving it unexpectedly, I'd love and appreciate it so much more!

And for those who have no lover, no date and no partner, it's just a reminder that you are yet to have someone to spend your life with, or to even have a bit of casual fun with on a day that is meant to be full of naughtiness, right?

Ann Summers have sent another email reminding us to get a sexy corset for 'that special someone'. Again, that's just an unnecessary reminder for those who have no one, where the only use for a corset would be to hold in the loose bits! (the muffin top) ;)

And it's also a reminder for all of us who have someone that it's time to spend some money because supermarket underwear just won't cut it for the 14th.

For guys, they either listen to their girlfriends' hints and suggestions, sometimes a item from Pandora. Or they could go for the single rose, which we also like, as it reminds us of the one in Beauty and The Beast.

And of course, there's the pressure lifted upon the man, to do something romantic - when for most men, Valentine's is really just viewed as a day for the female to enjoy.

So February the 14th... is it a day worth having?
